What if my dog training efforts are not working?

What if it's not working? If you feel like you have tried everything possible to help your dog improve their behaviour and it's just not working.

What's next?

Now is the time to listen to your yourself. Sounds simple right?! Well there is the paradox. It is incredibly simple, yet really really hard to do in our crazy busy life's.

There is a world of advice out there around dog behaviour/dog training and, in my experience 99% is coming from a good place. The person sharing/teaching has your dog and your best interests at heart. However, this does not mean it's right for you and your dog and.....that includes me btw! I am one of those people.....  I share the practice of Dog Listening as an approach that solves 99% of all non-vet related dog behaviour issues. This approach has helped 1000's of dog owners over the last 20 years or so BUT it might not be right for you.

If something is not working, (this goes for anything not just your dog!) have the courage to stop, press pause and listen to yourself, what do you want to do? What do you feel is right for your dog?

Did you know you have a super power?!  Every single person on earth has this super power, we just forget we have it. Our super power is drowned out by the noise of life.

Your super power is your free will.

Your dog or in fact anything outside of you cannot make you experience anything because you always have your super power. Your very own free will.

How cool is that?!

Please don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself!

Let's take your dog as an example:

Next time you are in a bad mood and your dog does "the thing" you know "the thing" that really annoys you?

For me with Fudge it's excessive barking.

I am sure you have your own "thing".  Take some time to observe how it makes you feel.

Now have think about what happens when your dog does "the thing" when you are in a good mood.

See....same behaviour yet you have a completely different experience.

Every time you remember this you have a choice, you have free will to choose you're experience in every situation.

When it looks like it's not working, everything feels contracted, we feel tense, we feel stress, we feel like there is only one way to deal with the problem. That's the clue, you just forgot your super power.

If you feel like it's not working, it's worth pausing, take a break, go inside yourself and I bet you find the next little step you could take to improve the situation.

To get you started here are some solutions that have helped me when I look inside rather than outside for the solution in relation to my dog's behaviour.

👉🏼 Am I  still resonating with the person guiding me?
👉🏼 Am I  being consistent?
👉🏼 Are the 4 Care Connections being implemented in our house calmly and consistently?
👉🏼 Has there been a change in my dog's world?
👉🏼 Am I forgetting she is a dog?!
👉🏼 Am I forgetting she lives in a world she doesn't understand?
👉🏼 Am I forgetting she is getting older?
👉🏼 Am I just exhausted and my tolerance is low?
👉🏼 Do I need some help?

I trust you, look inside and I bet you the next little step becomes obvious.
