School for Professional Dog Listeners

As I write this, it's just before Hogmanay 2024 and I want so share the magic that has been created in our online School for Professional Dog Listeners.

This school has been created out of tragic circumstances. Our good friend, colleague and mentor Tony Knight was killed by a falling tree branch in June 24. Just the day before we had all been on a call taking about Dog Listening and supporting each other to help our clients the best we can, then suddenly he was gone. I cannot begin to express the massive hole he has left in this world for so many humans and dogs. 

However, not long after a few of us really felt the time was right to set up the school in his memory. I know deep in my heart he would want us to do this.

It's not been easy and there are people who have tried to bring us down and make it much harder that it needs to be, but as I sit here and channel my "inner Tony" He would say - "let them be, and stay in your lane"  He really was the best at modelling this philosophy. He was able to move on and live his best life in the face of not just lack of support but others putting obstacles directly in his path. I am sure he had his moments but for us he always remained a calm, kind leader with loads of humour thrown in. 

For quite a few years now I had toyed with the idea of creating a course to help others become professional Dog Listeners but it never really got further than a thought. Whenever anyone asked me about it I could direct them to Tony, kinda lazy I know! especially as I don't believe there can ever be too many people training new Dog Listeners. Now he was gone and becoming a Dog Listener was going to become more and more difficult. 

I can't tell you how much I wish this could have happened without the tragic circumstances but I know Tony would give us his blessing. His number 1 priority was always the dogs and the best way to help dogs is to have more people find out about Dog Listening.

So here we are  December 24 and the school exists, it gone from a thought in our minds to a real thing....

• Level 1 is almost complete, we have planned the course, recorded the videos , created the resources, devised the summary and quiz and are all set to welcome students to our live coaching and Q&A calls from the 3rd March 2025.
• Excitement levels at SPDL HQ are very high, now but we get to move onto Level 2 in the New Year. This is our passion and we are all feeling very privileged that we get to share the joy of Dog Listening with you to create a beautiful ripple effect of Dog Listening around the world.

  We have been working together as part of the school now for just over 5 months and you would not believe how much we have learnt from each other. Every day really is a school day and Level 1 already far exceeds anything we have ever done alone. 

  3 heads really are better than one!
